      If you need reliable computer services in Butte County, I am your guy! I also provide mostly remote professional services ranging from network managment, systems management, development, support, etc.. for a wide range of clientele.

    • Projects: Current and Completed

      • One of my favorites: I now spend several hour per week teaching 6th -8th grade students about computer technologies including a wide range of topics including web technologies, advanced applications and security.

      • Network Monitoring: Used various tools to monitor various environments, helped automate deployment of Nagios/NRPE in financial datacenter environments, developed and maintain small business monitoring solutions based on Nagios, Cacti, Ntop, and similar tools to provide cost effective SLA type services.

      • Untangle, Inc. : Engineering and Product Managment Consulting/Implementation/ Support/Documentation

        Worked with executive managment and development on projects related to virtualization and monitoring of Untangle gateway devices using Xen, VMware, Kaseya, Level Platforms, Nagios, Cacti, etc..

      • Dental Practice Management Systems: Designed, built, implemented, and support multiple Dental practice management systems including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Practice Works, and Softdent for various implementations of paperless and semi-paperless dental service providers.

      • Levanta, Inc. : Support, professional services, documentation and training.

        Worked with all departments to help build out a services organization including support infrastructure, training, and professional services.

      • Children's Community Charter School--Paradise Unified School District: Network Consulting/Implementation/ Support

        Designed and implemented entire network infrastructure using Linux, including firewalls, DMZ, content filtering, remote access/VPN, fileservers, secure IMAP, Web Server (Apache), MySQL, Moodle, and more...

        Implemented Windows road warrior VPN access.

      • NT4 to Samba 3 Migration: Migrate existing NT4 domain to Linux/Samba3 domains, Linux/Samba3/OpenLDAP domains, File and Print server consolidation on Linux/Samba3, Active Directory integration.

        Small Business Server functionality using Open Source technologies including Linux, Samba, Apache, OpenLDAP, SSL, MySQL, PHP, DHCP, DNS, iptables, etc.

      • HomeTech Charter School--Paradise Unified School District: Network Consulting/Implementation

        Redesigned and implemented entire network infrastructure using Linux, including firewalls, DMZ, content filtering, remote access, Apple share/Appletalk fileservers, secure IMAP, Web Server (Apache).

        Implemented OS X desktop standardization and Operating System build management systems.

      • Custom spreadsheet and database solutions for demolition construction companies including Mas90 "connectors."

      • Started a Linux User Group in Paradise.: This is really just community work.

      • Linux Professional Institute: Exam development

      • Built my own distribution.

        Optimized down to the libraries, it served as a base for my Internet infrastructure and services products but now there is Gentoo and I prefer Debian proper.

    Vice President, Product Engineering

    Took a leading/founding role in the development department of the Linuxcare University spin-off.

    • Responsible for all aspects of content development including Project Management, Instructional Design, Quality Assurance, Sales Support, and management of developers.

    • Migrated documentation from FrameMaker to DocBook SGML and designed/ implemented modular document management systems.

  • January 1999 - May 2001 Linuxcare, Inc. San Francisco, CA

    Content Development/Quality Assurance Manager

    Worked in many areas of this fast-paced startup, which grew from three to three hundred in its first year and a half. Areas of responsibility included:

    • Documentation management systems design, implementation and management;

    • Courseware development including Linux Fundamentals, Linux System Administration, Linux Network Administration, Apache, and Mail Systems;

    • Internal/external LPI certification training for certification candidates and train the trainers for training partners;

    • Sales engineering support for all company products and services;

    • Project management for large internal and external projects;

    • Strategic business development including major global account relationship management, company acquisitions, and international expansion;

    • Third level technical support for all Linux distributions, VMWare, and common open source applications (i.e. Samba, Apache, Sendmail).

  • 1998 - 1999 Independent, GAP INC. San Francisco/San Bruno, CA

    Project Manager / Systems Engineer

    Managed workstation installation teams for this 5000+-user environment as well as developed several associated solutions.

    • Managed desktop rollouts and migrations in a heterogeneous OS/2, NT, NetWare, TCP/IP, IPX, Ethernet, Token Ring WAN serving upwards of 5000 clients.

    • Designed, developed, and implemented procurement services tracking database.

    • Designed, developed, and implemented a LAN cable installations database that allowed management to manage ongoing network cabling adds, moves, changes, invoicing, scheduling, and reporting.

  • 1996 - 1998 MicroAge Infosystems Services, Inc. Emeryville, CA

    Technical Services Account Manager

    Provided on-site technical services from MicroAge to Gap Inc. including a one-person project that grew into a multi-million dollar technical services account of up to 15 people.

    • Grew technical services from a 70-laptop rollout into a preferred vendor relationship of $10 million per year.

    • Managed all technical aspects of procurement and installation of all computer hardware purchased by Gap Inc. headquarters in San Francisco, San Bruno, and Rocklin, California.

    • Deployed over 1500 NT workstations NT workstations in a Windows 3.1 technology refresh for Gap distribution centers across the nation.

    • Migrated over 1500 OS/2 cc:mail/mobile laptops to Windows 95 Lotus Notes including operating system, applications, cc:mobile to Notes mailboxes, and remote access using SecureID.

    • Provided engineering support for Gap's standard laptop and desktop hardware, operating system, and applications builds.

    • Delivered training to business partners for Windows 95, cc:mobile, Lotus Notes, and numerous other standard applications.
